Athlon MP vs. XP Palomino

Has anyone heard the difference?
My MB only says it will take .18 u Athlon.

Is there that much instruction set difference?

The MP is for a multiprocessor system. If your motherboard does not
support using two processors at once, then buy the cheaper XP, as that's
the one you want anyway.
 
The only thing is it's so hard to find palomino's in xp anymore.
(As am finding out) Is it still possible to substitute MP in one's
place??
