Anyone have any idea when Asus will build an Athon 64 board with PCI
Express?

Chipsets are just out from nVidia, Via, and
apparently also ATi. Supposedly we will see
boards from the major manufacturers within a month.

It should be out pretty soon. My suggestion is read a few reviews
before purchasing it.

I recently waited and purchase Asus A8V Rev. 2.0 that finally have
working PCI/AGP Lock for overclock users. Early revision PCI/AGP Lock
cannot be fixed.

That's the thing about the new technology. They've announced it, and inside
a month they'll be shipping it. Then they'll spend a couple months finding
problems and fixing bugs. By the time it's a truly mature platform they'll
be working on the next new thing. :-)

Definitely read the reviews, as there are always teething pains.

That's the sad part of being computer nuts. We can only be happy
for a month or two, then we just gotta have the next newest thing
on the block.

I used to upgrade all the time, now I just upgrade every 16-18 months
and re-use as many old parts as I can and always have 2 PCs, the small
performance gains you get don't nearly outweigh the cash spent, find
another (cheaper) hobby. ;p

Same here. Except I've put myself on a 2-3 year cycle. My old PC is an
Athlon XP 1600+, the new one is an Athlon 64 3000+. Even the "old" one is
more than usuable with today's applications. I've also put myself on a
2-year video card upgrade cycle, but I've been staggering that with my main
system upgrade. Since I play a lot of games it seems to work out pretty
well.

That's pretty much what I have been doing as well. My main computer
is an Athlon XP 1900+, with a G-Force 4 video card. But it has hand me
down parts from the previous computer, still owned, A PIII 600. So I
think it's time to buy a whole new system to take advantage of all the
technology. The time is "want" though, not "need". So, the two main
things now is Athlon 64 and PCI Express. I have always used Asus
boards and have no intention to change. Abit has a board out already,
so I was wondering what's taking Asus so long?

IMHO it's more important to get it right than to get it done first.
Granted, some people have other opinions, but I have always been very
pleased with the performance of my ASUS components. I'm not saying that
Abit is shoddy by any means. I've heard good things about them, but I've
never owned anything they made.

It would be ok if it was a few months ;)
