I have an old PIII computer that I want to rejuvenate for my daughter,
but the mobo appears to have the 32GB HDD limitation. I don't have
anything smaller than 40GB, and don't want to use the 32GB limiting
jumper except as a last resort.

The mobo is an ATC-6240 (A-Trend, I believe) v1.1 07WB. Award v4.51PG
BIOS i440BX-W977TF-6240-VH.

I can't find a download source for a BIOS update file. I found one for
v3.0, but I think this has a different upgrade path. www.atrend.com
has only links to mobo sources. Can anyone help please ?

Have you seen these? Seems to have versions 1, 2, 3.

Thanks. I've found some others too, but can't be sure of the BIOS
version. In any case, until I can find another mobo of the same model
or one with a closely similar BIOS, I don't want to risk flashing it.

In the meantime, I've fitted a 40GB hard disk that was already
partitioned on another machine and used the 32GB-limiting jumper to
let the BIOS recognise the drive. With the jumper in place, all 40GBs
are accessible in Windows (actually some 37.2GB formatted space as
usual).

I'll let my daughter use it like this for the time being as I don't
intend to store any vital data in it, but the question is - When used
like this, is it likely that some problems could crop up later, like
loss of data ?
