I did not expect a company like ATARI would hijack a computer. But
looks like crooks can be big heads. MY son set homepage
(www.atari.com/godzilla)...since then, I found it impossible to remove
it. I used every way in the book, but it simply shows up again...plz
give me advice.

Please list what attempts you have made so we can rule them out.

What OS?
What browser?
What AV do you have installed?
Are you running Spybot S&D's Teatimer or SDHelper utilities?

Please be accurate! - there is no such thing as "Spybot kill and destroy"
(except possibly a spoof of the real app!)

Zone Alarm AND Spybot S&D (which is what I suspect you meant) both have the
capability to prevent changes to the Home page - and if you already have an
illegitimate homepage, then they can perpetuate it... disable both, and then
try again.

Do you have ZA v6.5.xxx? Known bug. Here's a workaround:

"ZoneAlarm does have a 'lock the hosts file' option (mine is unchecked),
but it still had the file locked up. The solution is to check the
option, click OK, uncheck it, click OK, and then I could edit the file
successfully."

OOPS! That is the workaround for the locked hosts file bug, sorry...
For the homepage locked bug, try turning off ZA(if you have the affected
version), and see if you can change the homepage. If not, uninstall ZA
and go back to ver 6.1. The new versions of ZA have many bugs(just take
a look on the ZA forum).

ZA 6.5.722.000 *is* affected by the bugs that prevent you from
accessing the Hosts file, and changing the home page(among others). I
doubt Spy Bot has anything to do with your issue. Check out the ZA
forum...

Hi Guys

your ideas were useful..after removing ZA from the system, I managed to
change the homepage....I guess I should find a new way to protect my
system from intrusion...any suggestions for a free software ???

Thanks

ZA 6.1(previous version) does not suffer from these bugs... also check
out Kerio and Sygate.
