Error message is 'time out' and a mysterious new H drive
labelled 'Generie Stealth DVD SCSI cdrom device has
arrived'.
All attempts to remove this have failed including editing
it out of register.
Using Windows XP Home

Did you install daemon tools, or something similar?
Daemon tools creates a virtual cdrom. It's purpose is to
allow you to "mount" a cd image on the harddrive, and to the system,
it seems as if a real CD has been placed in a real CDROM.

Do you see an entry for it in device manager?
