I purchased an Asus p4c800 and configured two MAxTor 120 GB drives in
a RAID 0 config.

I am importing video from the firewire using Adobe Premier and now
find that I am dropping frames. Dropping frames is typically due to
hard drive perf.

I have upgraded the BIOS to 1008.004 and have upgraded the promise
drivers from the web site. Interesting I had better perf, but I still
dropped frames.

I called the tech support and they supplied me older drivers that
worked better, but I still dropped frames.

I have done testing to ensure that it was not my hard drives and more,
and now I am convinced that it is something on the MB.

Can anyone make any suggestions? Please note that I am NOT using the
Serial ATA Raid. I am using ATA/133 RAID.

The ATA/133 Raid is slow. Either use the SATA raid
or don't use raid at all. The PATA is a master/slave on
the same channel which is slow for raid in my opinion.
I know when I moved my raid array from the PATA to
the SATA I saw a great improvement.

yep, miNe kicks Ass with the latest raid drive 1.30.. u want one drive on
the p-ata raid port and the other on the s-ata raid port. i'm using 2 wd
160g drives. had 2 purchase 1 p-ata to sata adater so both drives would be
on seperate raid channels. i record in realtime and my setup work just fine
& FAST..

yep thats because u had both drives as p-ata. even in the manual this is a
no no.. it tells u 2 have at least one drive setup as s-ata..

You may have just provided the out I'm looking for.
Would you please post some performance #'s for your HD setup.

Are you saying that one drive on PATA Raid and one drive on SATA Raid is
faster than two drives in SATA Raid or is there no difference?

No, he was referring to having RAID with both drives on the PATA port as
master/slave. That should never be done in any case with any
controller.

yep.. better performance with one p-ata drive and one s-ata drive(in the
same raid array).. there are 2 raid channels one for p-ata one for s-ata on
this mobo
if u use 2 s-ata or 2 p-ata drives they will be on the same raid channel so
performance suffers..for best performance use one drive on each raid
channel meaning one p-ata and one s-ata drive..
i did testing not only with the p4c800 mobo raid but being a long time raid
user ith promise controllers i tested the promise line tx2, tx2000 and even
the highpoint rocket raid 133 controller too.. just ask promise tech support
they can probably explain raid channels a lot better then i can with my
messed up hands. i'm searching or mt atto ad hdtach jpegs when i find em i
willpost em.

i have the same problem.
read 70mb/sec
write only 5 mb/sec

before i had a other asus board (amd) and 2 80gb hd´s on the sec. ide port
with software-raid (win2k)
read and write 60mb/sec.
here it worked with no problem, 2 drives on the same port. why?
