I recently rebuilt my computer, using my old two hard drives at 20Gb each,
which worked fine, on an iWill RAID 0 configuration.

Now I'm using the drives on the IDE1 channel of a new motherboard, set up as
master and slave via the jumpers. IDE2 being used for the CD and DVD drives.

The bios sees both drives.
XP does not, it insists that there is a duplicate harware error and whatever
I do, I can't seem to fix it.
I've even partitioned and formatted the drives from DOS, and XP will only
see one drive.
I managed to temporarily get XP to see the other drive, but after a re-boot,
it disappears again.

My drives are:
2 * DiamondMax Plus 40 Ultra ATA 100 (20Gb each) model number - 52049H4

XP:
Pro with all service packs.

MB:
MSI 465PE-Neo2, with 1Gb mem, and a p4 2.5ghz cpu.

Any ideas would be very much appreciated, thanks.

Is the IDE cable for the hard disks an 80 conductor cable? If not,
there will be a lot of crosstalk between the signal wires in a 40
conductor cable at the ATA 100 data rate. That can result in
intermittent failures. If it is an 80 conductor cable, is the disk
that's strapped as Master connected to the black connector,
the disk that's strapped as Slave connected to the gray connector,
and the blue connector connected to the motherboard?
