I really, really need some help here, so if any of you fellows have any
ideas as to what may be wrong, I would greatly appreciate it. I will try to
give as detailed a description of the problem as I can. Firstly this is the
basic setup of my network (where -- is wired and // is wlan)

INTERNET -- router (Linksys WRK54G) ---//---clients (Windows XP Pro)
|
|
`-- Windows 2000 server

I have a Windows 2000 server serving files locally to my LAN. From this
server I can download files easily. The problem is that I cannot *upload*
files to it.

The client boxes are each running XP Pro (SP2). The box accepts outgoing
traffic but appears to deny all incoming traffic except keepalive packets
etc. When I log on to the box locally I am prevented from using the
internet at all.

To try to alleviate this, these are the steps which I have taken:

- Reboots (obviously)
- Router re-config
- Replacement of router
- Replacement of NIC (twice) in server + testing each PCMCIA slot for each
replacement
- Replacement of WLAN with ethernet
- Creation of p2p network server-client(s)
- Checked all duplex settings
- Disabled local firewalls
- Virus and spyware checks

None of this has helped at all. At *all*. I have no idea how to proceed.
Everything is up to date, all network cables are in top condition, WLAN
signal strength is good, encryption is off (for the purposes of testing).
There are no virii present, nor spyware. The CPU load on the box remains at
2-4% consistantly. It just won't accept incoming bandwidth. I just don't
know what to do.

So... any fresh ideas?

Maybe the Win2k server is on the DMZ?

Is your W2K server a dc? Is it running DNS? If so, is it configured with
forwarders? Have you checked that the TCP/IP properties are the same as for
your WLAN machines?

Why not post an IPCONFIG /ALL from the working WLAN machine and the
non-working W2K Server here?

No, and no.

N/A

I have, and they are.

I don't have your past posts or the original "context" but you aren't
consistantly using the same DNS across all machines which invites
"discrepenacies" in how names resolve from one machine to another.

Thanks for the idea, I changed the DNS servers to all point to 192.168.1.1
and unfortunately it didn't make a difference ):

Drop the wireless and make a wired connection between your server and one of
the XP clients, what happens now?
Checked if the server isn't on a DMZ port, seems like your router is
actively blocking the server.

It's not, I looked.

Have you got W2000 DNS and DHCP server services running? That could be a bad
idea if you are using the router IP for those. You want the clients running
of course but not the server services I think.I guess you might see what the
WINS settings are too, I don't know if it's possible for a conflict there,
but worth checking against the other machines maybe.
