I seem to remember this subject has been brought up on this group
before. Unfortunatly, I wasn't paying attention.

My question is: - Is there anything one can do with old AT boxes? Is
it, for instance, possible to fit a microATX board in it?

The backplate is removable, so I think I can have it modified, or a
new one made, by friends that owe me a favor.

the backplate may need some new MB mounting holes drilled, but as you know, the PSU isn't going to work. If you have to buy one,
then what's the point, as you can get an ATX case and PSU for 50$

I am a firm believer in re-using as much as possible.
I have a lot of older machines sitting around here...386's & 486's in AT
style cases.
If I end up getting a super socket7 motherboard and can convert one to an
AMD450 or
such ...so I can give a friend a free of cheap machine I'll do so...
However it's just plain not worth it to try to fit an ATX board into one of
those things.

As the other respondent mentioned...you'd need a new PS anyway...
and the cost of the case does not add more than about $10 or $15 to a
powersupply/case combo

Oh, - I have an ATX PSU! :-D
And a whole bunch usable things. But I won't spend $50 on this.

- I need a case.
But ok, I've already mostly given up this.
....Seems such a waste, perfectly good case like that...(sigh)
