Slightly related question...

How do I properly identify a Compaq computer for use with the latest MBM?
It was purchased through my wife's work and the documentation is sorely
lacking...

Thanks!

JohnH who just uses ASUS probe on his ASUS machine thinking surely that must
be adequate?

Depends on what you prefer. ASUS Probe give you more information about your
system, but you can't beat the MBM in tray status if that's what you prefer.

Depending on the MB Anal Asus Probe has been know to report upto 10 deg
higher.

Run both for a while and see how the two compare to each other.

About a year and half ago on this NG there were nothing but questions and
complaints about ASUS Probe giving bad readings. I had the same problem on
my A7A266 so I converted to MBM; it wasn't perfect but had far fewer
hiccups.

I recently bought a P4P800 and put on the current version of Probe. Seemed
pretty good but shortly after I got a bad fan rpm reading and thought here
we go again. Downloaded latest MBM and am happy. I missed not having the
display of CPU temp in the tray which had everybit as much to do with going
to MBM as the bad fan reading.

MBM needs to release a lite version or something, the windows/setting
are very annoying and when I play some 3D games it makes the screen
freeze for a micro second just often enough to (piss me off) be
noticeable.

Only thing I like about MBM is its ability to read the CPU die temp on
the A7N8X, why Asus Probe still reads the CPU socket temp on this board
is beyond me!
