Wondered if someone could ease my confusion.

Will my Asus P5W DH Deluxe run a Core 2 Duo E6850 ?
Asus website indicates that it will do with latest bios update.

My principal confusion is that the E6850 runs with a FSB of 1033, whereas my
M/B guide tells me that the top FSB is 1066

Thanks

Core 2 Duo E6850 (3.00GHz,1333FSB,L2:4MB,rev.G0)

BIOS 2103 and higher support the E6850. If you need to flash it do so
from a boot floppy using an older CPU.

Thanks for the input Bruce.
Should add, that I'm currently running a E6600 clocked at 2.88.
Will I gain a distinct advantage by investing in a E6850?

Thanks
John

You've overclocked the E6600 by 20% to get it to 2.88GHz. Do the same
with the E6850 you'll realize 3.6GHz.

Demanding users, overclockers, and gamers may find the extra 720MHz
desirable. For more modest needs the upgrade would be unnecessary.

Correction: the E6850 requires a FSB speed of 1333 MHz. That is a problem,
since upgrading your BIOS to the latest version is always risky as it
sometimes destroys the motherboard.

Thanks Bruce

Advice appreciated..........

You must be doing it wrong or using a beta or third-party BIOS. I've NEVER
had a BIOS flash destroy a mobo and I must have done well over 50 of them.

There is a tiny risk of this, but if you sare scared of doing such trivial
things, you have no place in a hardware newsgroup.
