Asus P4PE and Celeron D as well as 800FSB

http://www.asus.com.tw/support/cpusupport/cpusupport.aspx but I am
assuming that the new Celeron Ds are supported for the P4PE? Also I see
that it even supports P4 with 800FSB but only the northwood cores.
Anyone try getting a prescott P4 to successfully run with the motherboard?

P4PE1007 BIOS supports family code
0F0A,0F12,0F13,0F21,0F23,0F24,0F25,0F27,0F29

The 1007 BIOS for the P4PE-X has exactly the same support in it.

If you look at your board, notice that it has a two phase
Vcore converter on it. The boards that support Prescott have
a three phase converter, and it is possible that a Prescott it
just too much for the converter. Also, I don't know if the
regulator on the P4PE supports the VID coding for a Prescott.

Finally, in addition to the microcode support listed above,
there are some minor issues with recognizing the speed of the
processor properly. That support probably isn't in the BIOS
either.

I picked the first four, to show what is supported. The family
code of the two Northwoods is supported on the P4PE 1007 BIOS.
The Prescott 0F33 is not.

It is hard to say exactly what the current consumption would be
on the ones with voltage range shown. I'd have to dig up
datasheets to get a nice current number.

The first one draws 81.8/1.55=52.8A . A rough guess would be,
that some of the two phase regulators are good for 30 amps per
phase. If I were to assume the Prescott ran at 1.4V, then I
get 84W/1.4V=60A, which would be on the edge of my guesstimate.
No sense making crispy critters out of your MOSFETs.

The CelD is definitely out of the ball park. At 73 amps, due to
the low voltage, it is definitely P4C800/P4P800 only material.
(And no, you cannot cheat by just raising the voltage, as it
makes power consumption worse.)

Just for fun, I dug up a few faster processors, to see where they
are headed. The last one 115W/1.4V=82 amps will keep you warm
in winter. That will load a P4P800/P4C800 pretty fully.

I'm afraid you are stuck with the Northy. Since there aren't any
beta BIOS listed on the download site, for P4PE, I expect they've
stopped updating them ?

I seem that for P4PE-XTE mainboard there is the 1006 only....
