Asus P4PDeluxe problems

Friend of mine has the above board with a P4 3.06 plus 2Gb Corsair matched
DDR400 dual channel ram. Anybody out there had problems with this
combination? His has had a major failure with a little voice inside saying
"major system failure due to processor overclocking". CPU has not been
overclocked but there was an issue of smoke!! during the last bootup and now
it's dead.

Smoke will do that! Visual inspection first, also smell the back of the PS!
Sounds like PS or mobo capacitors? Look closely!
Whatever happened to quality control and factory burn/in?
 
Does the Manual for the motherboard state that you can use (4) 512 MB
Corsair dual DDR400 sticks in that motherboard? I tend to doubt it... But I
could be wrong.

I'm using 2X256 Corsair "Value Ram" DDR400 PC3200 on my P4P800 Deluxe...
Running great in dual mode, and they are not even on the "approved" list.
