subject says it all, just upgraded the bios on my Asus m-ATX P4P800-VM
from bios version 1004 to 1006, and after reboot the P4 2.8c processor
is now registering as 2.9 at boot! Windows XP system information
claims the CPU is now a "P4 2.88", wtf..!?

Sounds as if the BIOS is reading the CPU speed in more detail. Windows XP
normally gets a pretty detailed idea of the CPU speed but it sounds like the
BIOS is now doing the same.

1008 is out on the Asus website. Haven't heard of anyone installing it yet
though.

Thank you John... ok, so this may actually be normal then? I have
never seen anything like this before, at boot my CPU is reading as "P4
2.9" on the POST screen, and within the BIOS itself I see my CPU
listed as any one of the following (changes a bit at every reboot!):
2899MHz, 2901MHz, 2902MHz, etc... also, after updating the BIOS my
Windows XP install became unstable, and will reboot without warning at
times now.

I have been trying for over an hour to "downgrade" to the 1005 bios
version, but cannot as the 'AsusUpdate' program will not allow you to
install a previous (older) Bios version over a newer one. Trying to do
a floppy Bios install has proven impossible, as the new "AFUDOS.EXE"
program only generates errors ("File creation error", Unable to create
output file", etc.)...

Lastly, I do notice that in the 1006 Bios the "MPS version" setting
default has changed from 1.4 to 1.1, haven't seen that in years..!

Ok John, I appreciate your help! Is this a different .rom file than
the one I downloaded from the ASUS website though? You can email me at
(e-mail address removed)

Thanks a bunch, I have been starting to despair over this..!
