Hi all.
Dont know if you can help me or not but i get this when i boot up
NEW CPU INSTALLED! Please enter Setup to configure your system.
[F1] to run Setup
[F2] to load Default and continue
i have tried setup and saving but as soon as i reboot with new
settings i get the same message.
i have tried replacing the CMOS battery. clearing the CMOS and
replaced jumpers but none of them solve the problem. i have tried
contacting asus but i get no response and their support forums are
down.
any help woul be appreciated and i will post system specs if needed

I notice that the 1006 BIOS says it "supports new CPUs", but
the cpusupport page doesn't show any processors as needing 1006.
I would try flashing a newer BIOS (or post and tell us what BIOS
you are currently using). There is even a beta BIOS, if you
want to try that.
It would also help if you mentioned the type of processor. The package
the processor came in, has an SSPEC (SLxxx) code on it, and a
longer order number. They can be looked up on processorfinder.intel.com
. If you post again, give details like that, as if you are using
a very recent processor, it just might be a lack of proper support
in the BIOS.
For example, some Prescott processors can be run at the wrong speed
by the BIOS (2.8GHz, no matter what speed it says on the package),
and this is due to a piece of code missing from the BIOS, to handle
the power configuration for the board. (The Platform Requirement Bit
or PRB.)
The cpusupport page also says a 3.4E Prescott can only be used in
a rev2 board, so that is also a possible reason for the strange
behavior. Telling us the exact processor type helps, but in this
case, flashing the BIOS is probably the only option you haven't
tried.

I encountered the same problem
I just assembled a new computer using
1) P4P800SE Motherboard, AMI BIOS Ver. 1.007 (latest)
2) Intel Pentium4 3.0E (Prescot)
3) 1x512 Apacer PC3200 memory
4) 1 IDE drive (Quantum), 1 SATA drive (WDC), 1 CDROM (SONY)
5) WinXP Pro SP2
All bios settings (except boot seguence etc) are default. Everytime I
boot I get the
following boot screen from the BIOS:

This screen appear again after I press F1, configure and exit option
'Exit & Save Changes'.
Checked and confirmed that the changes has been saved but screen
appear again on reboot.
However if I press exit option 'Exit & Discard Changes', it will then
reboot correctly i.e to the boot device as specified in the boot
sequence and WinXP Pro runs normal.
I have done the following but results negative
1) Clear CMOS memory by removing onboard battery and moving jumper
from pins 1-2 to pins 2-3 for over 5 mins and move jumper back to pins
1-2.Replace battery
2) Checked and confirmed battery is OK i.e 3.0V off and on the board.
3) Remove all devices (Drives, CDROM) except Moinitor, Mouse &
Keyboard
4) Reflash BIOS to the lastest Version.1.007 using DOS command AFUDOS
as well as ASUS EZ Flash.
5) MemTest the 512MB DDR for over 8 hrs with zero error.
What else do you recommend I do to fix the problem of recurrence boot
screen appearing so it will boot into WinXP on startup or reboot on
BIOS changes save?
