Hey folks, got a wierd problem, Just got this motherboard and was going to
put a sata drive on it. I downloaded the file from asus site, and did the f6
thing. I show the file on bootup, think it is showing as sata0 or something
like that. When installing xp It loads the files and I hit S to tell it to
specify the sata driver on the disk. It gets to the part where it says hit
enter to load xp. I hit enter and it tell me there is no hard disk on the
drive. So there you go. I have tried different configurations but still no
hard drive for windows to put it on. I booted of a western digital utility
to see if it would see the drive and it does see the drive, I ran a quick
test on it and it shows fine

I have tried everything I know to try. I know the floppy is good, I have
tried 3 floppy disk. I have made the floppy from the make disk utility, and
I have also just extracted the file directly from asus onto a floppy. For
some reason it is not picking up the driver. It is reading the ulsata file
from the disk when I his S to specify a file. Windows just does not see
that the disk is there. It is in the bios though. If I do not get this
resolved soon I will be back to IDE drives by next weekend.

You have 2 pairs of Serial ata connectors on that motherboard. Try one of
the others or use the proper driver for the one you are using.

The Promise 20378 RAID controller incorporated two Serial ATA and one
parallel connectors with RAID 0, RAID 1 and RAID 0+1 functions while the
VT8237 RAID controller provides another two Serial ATA connectors for RAID 0
and RAID 1 functions. The K8V is the ideal solution to enhance hard disk
performance and data backup protection without the cost of add-on cards.

I also had a problem booting my k8v from a single stata drive.
This is what finally worked for me.
In bios Enable SATA Boot Rom. (I also Disabled the Onboard Pomise
Controller)
Connect the sata drive to the SATA1 connector on the mother board.
(NOT PRI_SATA or SEC_SATA)
You should now see the SATA drive in the Boot\Boot Device Priority
list.
I used the VIARAID_211 version of the drivers. Used
VIARAID\DriverDisk\MakeDisk to create the floppy.
Installed XP - hit F5 when asked and eventually it read the floppy
and found the drive which I then partitioned and formated. Leave the
floppy in since it read from it again later on.
Its been working fine. Good Luck.

Whoops - that should read F6
