I recently upgraded to an Athlon 64 3200+ Processor with a gig of RAM so I
could do video editing with my system. I did a clean install of XP the
system runs great but when I do some gaming the game will pause for about a
sec then start again the sound is ok it is just the video, and it does this
multiple times.

Also when I am watching a video (from the HD) the sound is ok but the video
will freeze. It doesn't seem like a processor problem but it seems to be a
video problem. I reloaded the system again maybe I had a bad install but I
have the same problem. I am using the lastest versions of the ATI display
driver. Also I rip alot of songs from CD to MP3 and the progress bar will
pause for a about a sec then resume. It does this multiple times. Has
anyone heard of this problem or have a solution? I would hate to rid of my
card because it has all of the capturing features I am using. I forgot to
mention it does the lock up thing when I am typing. It just seems to be
video because the whole system runs fine. It is wierd. Any help would be
appreciated. Here is my Config.

AMD 64 3200+
1024 Kingston RAM (recommened RAM by AMD)
ATI All In Wonder 8500 DV (running all latest drivers)
Soundblaster Live! Value
Windows XP Pro

One more thing I did get the 64 bit edition of Windows the video seems fine
(using microsoft's ATI driver) so this is really puzzling me also. But
can't get all hardware to work yet so I can't use it allot yet.

latest ATI drivers does not equal best. keep this in mind, especially as
your board is over 2 years old.

The latest are CAT 4.2
Personally I am sticking with the CAT 3.10 and MMC 8.6 I may go to 8.7
but i had probs with 8.8 and regressed.

You also might try the omega drivers for ATI, very stable for gaming and
the ONLY unofficial drivers that ATI endorses. www.omegacorner.com
I have used these drivers and they are very nice.

Ok now the MB, there was a bad batch of capacitors used on the K8V, make
sure your board doesnt have any. RMA it if it does. I'm sure there is a
note at ASUS.com about it somewhere.
