I don't know about the Thermaltake but I bought a Thermalright cooler and I had to replace the backplate that was already on the K8V with the one delivered with the cooler. If there's a backplate delivered with the Thermaltake you'll have to remove the original one.

The thing is that the backplate is - although not really glued - attached using some sticky tape kind of stuff. You'll have to apply some force - this is also what ASUS Support told me. Because I had already tried with only little force and then waited 3 hours for the reply of ASUS support for some reason the backplate fell off by itself when I tried again...

Hope this helps,

Hjalmar

I bought a Thermaltake Volcano 11+ cooler for my AMD Athlon 64 3400+ to go
with my Asus K8V Deluxe motherboard. Does this cooler compatible with this
motherboard? What should I do, the cooler wouldn't attach.

Thanks

Massa

I believe there are different versions, one of AMD processors, the other for
Intel P4

Hjalmar, thanks for your help.
When I bought the processor I made a big mistake, it wasn't a retail
package, so the processor came with no other bracket or cooler, that's why I
bought this Thermaltake Volcano 11+. So I only have the retantion bracket on
the motherboard and the thermaltake cooler I don't know how to put it
together.
Other than that, on the Asus User Guide there is a list of compatible
heatsink and fan but I cannot find them nowhere. They are:
AVC - Z7UB003
Thermaltake - A1892
Taisol - 111-8061010-90 (look more like a serial number)
Thanks for your help

The Volcano 11+ is for socket A AMD chips. The Thermaltake fans that
will fit your new motherboard are the Venus series coolers. There are
two of these, the Venus 12 and the Silent Boost K8.

It seems that the reason you had to do this is that the Thermalright
SLK-948U cooler uses a different design of backplate. The Thermaltake
Venus coolers use the standard AMD backplate and retention bracket.
