i have the K7M motherboard and under WinXP Pro i get the "it is now safe to

make it turn off automaticaly like all recent mainboards do?thank you
Somehow, WinXP has been installed as "standard PC", not "ACPI PC" in your
case. This probably due to ACPI being turned off in BIOS or WinXP has found
that your BIOS is too old for ACPI to be reliable.
Has ACPI worked with earlier OSs? Like Win98 etc? Does your PC automatically
shut down here?
In any case, latest BIOS could fix this, but WinXp will have to be
reinstalled. You can probably manually force ACPI on at WinXP install by
pressing F5 whils setup asks you to "press F6 to install drivers for
SCSI/ATA".
If WinXP still will not install as "ACPI PC" after checking in BIOS whether
ACPI is turned on and flashing to latest BIOS, it's probably not worth
forcing ACPI.
After all, a lot of people prefer to run with ACPI disabled, they have to
manually turn of the computer and the "system idle" system proces is not
run, so that CPU will produce max heat all the time. The CPU can be cooled
down somewhat with other programs that can execute an idle loop ( f.ex
Rain), so that's not a big deal.
