Asus failure rate

Almost no traffic in Asus NG, so may I repost here:
M2V board failed in 4 weeks. Replacement just received dead on arrival. How
unusual is this? Is Asus baaad, or could it be a failing, then failed, CPU?
How improbable is that. The just-received replacment managed to make the
fans spin with main PSU, a new Antec 350W. My backup power Antec 300W
produced a much feebler but audible fan-noise effect. Last gasp?
If Asus refuses a third mobo, or if it too fails, please recommend a brand
that has not outlived its high reputation.
TIA,

TIA,

Having had 4 successive Antec PSU's go bad, I know where I'd look.
Personally I've never had a duff Asus board, and I've use plenty.

Encouraging and hopeful, thanks. I of course tried other (three) PSU's.
They are working on other boards.

Don't know i've got a M2V board also had no problems in 2 months I've
had it.

ASUS failure rate is determined by who you buy it
from. Most of the fly-by-nights who sell ASUS will
build up a stock of bad mobos, and continuously
recycle them as refurbs and warranty exchanges.
I quit buying ASUS a long time ago because of
this, and I do not know if there is a reputable
ASUS dealer anywhere. I have never seen an
ASUS mobo run longer than 2 years before it starts
rebooting without warning. I have stuck with Gigabyte
for the last 10 years, and in all that time, I have
not had a mobo failure. Only during one period
about 7 years ago, I went through a bunch of
Gigabyte mobos that did not like Maxtor hard
drives, or ATI 9800 Pro video cards. Those mobos
used a "Vi" chipset, and now I always check for that.
So far, all my X2 mobos have been fine. I just have
to watch out for the PCI slot placement ... which
will interfere with fan upgrades if you are not careful.

Yes, I've had problems with those lately. They used to be the best. AT one
time I had a list of the best built in order of quality. Asus and Abit were
at the top.

Right now I like:

Epox

Don't like:

MSI
PC Chips
ECS

Were those ASUS failures prior to the 10 year span
that you "stuck with Gigabyte" mobos, or during those
10 years?

Do you overclock your boards?

I have used Asus for longer than I can remember and just recently had my
first RMA of an Asus board. It had the NV 680i chipset and the SATA
controller failed. After doing some checking I found that it isn't an
Asus issue, but an issue with the 680i chipset itself. It seems there
are issues with SATA on this chipset for some folks. Asus didn't give me
any hassle at all in replacing it and they did not have my P5N32-E-SLI
in stock and sent me a Striker Extreme boxed/new instead. It arrived in
two business days so I just don't have a problem using Asus MBs. I use
what works for me over time and Asus has worked just fine.
