Yes, i want to get rid of everything and restore the PC
back to the state of which it was shipped from the factory
without using XP installation disc and external optical drive.
The outcome should be the same as format the HDD and reinstall XP.

The default state is a specific OS installation
configuration. There is no such thing as restoring it to
the default state and preserving anything not present in
that state. Restoring that will wipe out what you have, but
should not require reinstalling the OS since that is the
point of what it does, getting rid of everything and
replacing with how it shipped (with an OS).

Thank you for your reply.

I want to wipe out everything i put (install and config) after
i purchase the PC and have a flesh installation of the OS as if
it was shipped.

While some EeePCs (like my 2G Surf) can be restored to factory
condition from a protected partition onboard (no DVD required), the
EeePC XP 1000 series requires the support DVD and an external optical
drive, which is completely explained (with pictures) in section 5 of
your User's Manual.

Thank you,

I read this section just after i opened the box. The problem is the
don't have external optical drive (dvd rom drive) and i don't want to
purchase one for the time being. I also found there is a hidden
partition in the 160GB hdd, i suppose that an image of the fresh
installed OS is there and i could(?) use it to recover the c:\ drive to
the state of which it was shipped. My friend told me that he can do this
by using ALT+F9 in his notebook but it dose not work in Eee PC.

Try f10/11 , it worked on a HP laptop I serviced.
Hitting the button in time when booting up, is tricky,
I just keep hammering the button in question right after
I hit the "power on" button.
