Have a mate who's trying to install two hard drives, a CD ROM and DVD reader
under Windows 98. For some reason the ASUS DVD drive doesn't want to share a
cable with either of the other hard drives. All drives are set to cable
select.

Has anyone else had a problem like this?

Any suggestions?

Thank you.

Make sure the hard drive is at the end (black connector) of the cable
and the DVD at the middle (gray connector). Otherwise use the jumpers.

then jumper them manually. it's almost always easier to do this once you
know what you're doing as cable select can be caused to fail by lots of
things...
