I rebuilt my PC just under a year ago and included an ASUS CD-RW 40r/48w/16rw IDE RP. Initially this worked fine but lately, if I try to burn a blank CD, it spins the blank but cannot detect it. I guess this is a hardware problem but, before I rip it out and return it, I'd appreciate hearing of similar problems.
Thanks,
Tim

Can you see the burner in Windows Explorer ? Device Manager ? Can you browse
files on a CD or play a music CD ? You can always blow compressed canned
air into the drive and see if that helps.

I'd suspect software before hardware. I don't know what OS you're using or
what CD Burner app you're using. I've had similar issues with Direct CD in
the past. The temporary fix was to right click on the drive and tell it to
format the CD. The permanent fix was to reinstall Direct CD.
