I'm interested in the new ASUS A8N32-SLI Deluxe motherboard, but I'm
confused as to memory.

I've seen in reading on a DFI forum (DFI-Street.com) about another
mobo I was considering (Lanparty) how important and how finicky
memory is nowadays, especially if one wants to have the option to
overclock. I haven't seen much about memory for this new Asus
motherboard, though.

I'd like to get a fairly high-quality 2GB kit consisting of two 1GB
DIMMs. I'm most interested in recommendations from those who own this
new mobo, but any informed opinions are most welcome.

Why don't you go to the forums of the memory your are considering and post a
message there?
Both OCZ and Corsair have forums. Just go their the web sites and look for a
link to the forums.

Unless you have already succeeded in ordering one, you may be joining
a very long waiting line....perpetually out-of-stock on-line, and when
a few come in they are grabbed immediately.

CORSAIR TWINX2048-3500LLPRO. Another very rare animal.
Backordered everywhere at the moment, except for the on-line
'fleecers' charging up to $100 premium. Supposedly jointly
developed by Corsair and Asus for the A8N32-SLI. Very high
performance...shortage supposedly because only 25% of the
memory devices ( Infineon ) can be binned to meet these
modules' timing specs ( 2-3-2-6 @ DDR433 ).

You can also readily use high-quality 2x1GBbyte DDR500/550
memory, since the board itself can clock well above 250Mhz.

See the Anandtech review:-

Corsair TwinX2048-3500LLPro. See Corsair website and related banners.
Extremely hard to get -- very high demand, limited yield
(2-3-2-6@217MHz)

New shipment just arrived in ZipZoomFly this morning, still available.
Newegg also was supposed to get a shipment, not yet appeared.
Other sites who have it are charging ripoff prices.

Thanks, John Lewis, for the recommendation and the tip about
ZipZoomFly. I was able to get the Corsair TwinX2048-3500LLPro after
seeing your post (and before they raised the price).

Indeed these things are hard-to-get. It's like looking for Cabbage
Patch Kids or Furbys, but for computer geeks like me. Fortunately,
other than the mobo and memory, everything else I've looked for seems
to be generally available.

Other memory I considered:

Mushkin Redline XP4000
http://www.mushkin.com/doc/products/memory_detail.asp?ID=273
http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/showthread.php?t=76672&page=4&pp=25&highlight=asus

Also hard-to-get, except from Mushkin itself. However, this memory
does not show in their "configerator" for the A8N-SLI Premium (the
closest board to the A8N32-SLI currently in their database). And when
I searched their forum for reference to the A8N32-SLI, what I found
was an implication that this memory is OK for it but not ideal for it.

OCZ PC4000 EB Platinum
http://www.ocztechnology.com/produc...00_2x1024mb_platinum_edition_dual_channel_kit
http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums...71992a593e92d1d72d9b389&t=75205&page=23&pp=25

Recommended by Anandtech, but even harder to get right now, I don't
think anybody expects to get any before December.

No, as you pointed out to me, the Corsair TwinX2048-3500LLPro was made
for the A8N32-SLI: if it's ideal for any mobo, that's it; so I decided
to go that route. Thanks again!

ZZF and Newegg sent me an auto notice that the 3500 LL is in and I just
got my order in at Newegg.
