Asus A8N-Deluxe SLI install fails

Greetings,

I'm not sure how to get around this. This problem started with Beta 2.

I now cannot install Vista. I have tried upgrading from XP (MCE) by booting
the DVD, or by booting to XP and then launching the installer. Every time I
get through the process to where it's "completing the upgrade" (last line
after "installing features") and the system hangs with the green bar about
75% complete. I've tried with SLI disabled in BIOS, enabled in BIOS, and
with only one video card installed (nVidia 7800 series) (and the motherboard
set to one video card). I've also attempted to install on this system to a
fresh new hard drive (same hardware combinations as above) and have had no
success. No devices are attached except for the monitor, mouse, and
keyboard. I've also tried the latest production and latest beta BIOS.

Any ideas what to do/try next would be appreciated, I'm out of ideas.

Thanks,
P

Tips for how to file a problem report

Here are some things to consider when filing a problem report:

Please file your report as soon as possible after you find a problem. The
sooner we hear from you, the sooner we can investigate and try to fix the
problem.

Please provide a brief, descriptive title. The title is the first thing we
see when we get the report, so a succinct, clear title will help us
effectively identify and prioritize the problem.

Please provide enough detail in the description for us to understand the
problem. The more detail you can provide, the better.

Please provide the steps we can follow to reproduce the problem. Any
incorrect or missing steps can prevent us from being able to reproduce and
address the problem.
If you have any supplemental files, screen shots, etc., that will help us
investigate the problem, please attach those to your report. Seeing a
picture can sometimes help us identify the problem more quickly.

Odd problem there Peter. I also use the A8N-SLI Deluxe, but vista installed
flawlessly. You using onboard audio? I think it gets disabled by putting a
sound card in, so maybe try that if you are.

OK, this tip pointed me in the right direction. After disabling SLI and the
sound it still crashed at the same place to a clean drive (at least for the
betas it would be nice to have more specific information displayed on where
the install is working - base, network, desktop, whatever?!) so I ended up
playing with multiple combinations of disabled devices and finally came up
with: Disable SLI, 1384, and Marvell LAN. I had already disabled the nVidia
and Silicon RAID options since this box only has one hard drive. Now
upgrades and installs work.

Hopfully as more drivers are bundled into the distribution this kind of
problem will go away....

Luck all.

I've running vista now as well, I removed one of my 6600 GT card, unplugged
my sata raid, and turned off firewire, sound and sli in the bios.

Hardware is Asus a8n sli deluxe motherboard, 2gig corsair ram, 2x74 gig WD
raptors in raid 0 (currently unplugged), a maxtor 120 gig hdd, 2 x leadtech
6600 gt tdh (one currently removed). I've tried installing nvidia's nforce 4
AMD chipset drivers and I get blue screens of death. (had to reinstall
vista). Has anyone managed to successfully install the nvidia chipset drivers
on vista64?

Cheers

I have the same motherboard and I am having the same issues that you were
experiencing. What exactly is 1384?
