I
Ieuan
I hope someone out there can help me.
I have 2 hard drives - one with Windows XP Pro installed on it and the
other simply formatted to store data.
I managed to attach my new motherboard (ASUS A7V8x-x) and ensured the
cables only linked to my hard drive with XP Pro installed on it -
leaving the second drive to later. When the system booted itself I got
a blue screen saying that windows had to shut down my PC to prevent
damage to it and suggesting I should check for viruses on my hard
drive, remove any new hardware, check to ensure the hard drive was
properly configured and terminated or run chkdsk /f. This blue screen
always occurs on rebooting from the hard drive with XP on it.
I then tried it with the hard drive that was simply formatted - this
only told me to press a key to reboot the PC - not too surprising as I
have no operating system installed on that hard drive.
Looking through the reviews on the motherboard many people praise the
board - which is why I got it, plus my previous board was ASUS so I
figured better go for one you know. However, some people have had
probelms with the board.
I managed to update the BIOS on the board to version 13 but the same
problems as above still occurred.
I then decided to try to try to install Windows XP Pro on my formatted
hard drive as one reviewer said they had to reinstall Windows onto
their hard drive after installing this motherboard. Upon rebooting my
PC (linking to my blank (but formatted) hard drive) the PC didn't boot
from my disk and gave me the same press a key to reboot message as
before.
So, I need some advise on what I can do next?
I have a feeling that the motherboard isn't working correctly. I've
now reverted back to my old mothreboard andd everything works fine so
there can't be anything wrong with the hard drive.
Should I send the board back for a replacement?
Should I get a different board - all suggestions very welcommed....
Thanks,
Ieuan
