Hi folks,

i'm having a asus A7V8X mobo and SUSE Linux 9.0 running on it.
The problem is; i don't get the mirophone input working with linux.
Line-In and CD-In is working well and the microphone works too when im
booting with windows 2000. But how whant's windows. ;-)
Don't ask me if i have turned on the microphone whit the mixer. Thats to
simple. ;-)

Does somone have an idea or even the same mobo with linux running without
this problem.

Thanks, Roland

Just one more datapoint: I can't get the microphone work on Linux
(various versions up to SuSE Linux 8.2) on an ASUS A7M266 either.

Is there a microphone boost button on the interface somewhere ?
Most sound chips have a 20dB gain block, which is enabled
when you turn on microphone boost. Or, try substituting a
line level signal for the microphone, and see if that signal
gets through.

Hi Paul,

thanks for hint with the line signal.
I tryed line out from my MD-Player and there is a sound via the mic.-in
line!
Now there is the question, why does ist work in windows and not in Linux
with the same microphone?

Any more idea?

Thanks, Roland

You gotta find the microphone boost interface! Even if you have
to do it from the command line.

With Linux/Unix environments, there are too many variables
for me to guess where the problem lies. My attempts to understand
Alsa so far have been frustrated. For example, AC-97 is referred
to as "Intel-8x0" driver, but the AC-97 chips themselves have a
baseline set of registers and an extended set of registers, so
how can custom features in an AC-97 sound chip get support ?
Fortunately, your mic boost register bit is in a baseline register,
so should be there somewhere.

If using a GUI, maybe you need one that is more full featured ?

my mobo is a A7V8X-X.
My microphone input work well with Linux and W2000
but doesn't work with Xp.
And sometimes i've got a freeze at Xp loggin.

i'm afraid this board acte a little strange.
and that there is no software response :(.
