I recently got a A7N8X-X motherboard and Antec 601a case. I want to
connet the front USB ports but there was no documentation with the
case and the documentation with the mobo was less than helpful. I
really want to get these connections right. I need to know which pin
on the mobo gets which connector. Thanks for any help.

Page 31 in the manual is pretty clear on that (edition v4 E1292).

USB56 is the header on the board.

Looking at the header on the board with the missing pin at bottom right, and
pin 1 at bottom left, the assignment is as follows;

Top row

1 - USB +5V
2 - USB P6-
3 - USB P6+
4 - GND
5 - NC

Bottom Row
1 - USB +5V (this is pin 1)
2 - USB P5-
3 - USB P5+
4 - GND
5 - not present

I tried to look up the case to see what connector it presents, but can't
find any reference to an Antec 601a case on the Antec website.

HTH,

Pete.

HTH,

Pete.

I should have said that the connectors on the case are as follows:
+5V
-5V
+D
-D
GND
GND
GND with 2 wires going into it.
I know that there are 3 more connectors but I need the pc up to send
this. I guess what it boils down to is are the D connectors the USB
connector?

D = Data.

The header on the board is for two USB sockets; the list you've given is for
one and a bit.

On the pin outs, I've listed P5 and P6; these are the two USB ports, each
having a + and - input. So connect +D to P5+, and -D to P5-.

If you're lucky, the other 3 connectors may include another pair of +D
and -D. If so, connect the second set as +D to P6+ and -D to P6-

Hope this helps.

Regards,

Pete.
