If this is the regular A7N8X and not the Deluxe model you should at
least get sound out of the front speaker ports (GREEN), to get all 6
channels to work with volume mixers, EQ, etc, you'll want to install the
ALC650 Realtek drivers.

ALC650 Software (Drivers & Utilities)
Windows 98Gold/98se/Me/2000/XP for Driver only. For Windows 98 SE,
DirectX(R)8 is required to enable advanced features.

Since the realtek v3.45 drivers were released I had no problems with
sound, but even without those installed I got the front speakers to
work. Only thing I can think of is to check the Advanced speaker
configuration in windows and make sure the Real-time SPDIF-In Monitor is
disabled in the windows volume mixer.

This is actually my original post, this board came missing the I/O cover,
Im suspecting its a return that got resold DOA sound?

I didnt think about this before, while installing the all in one drivers
from asus, it comes up with a microsoft error saying that the sound drivers
have not passed Windows Logo testing to verify compatibility with XP. Would
this be the problem? if so how to rectify? And why have I never seen this
with any other A7N8X MB and XP?

Check the jumpers on your FPAUDIO connector.

Hi!

I got the same problem with the A7N8X Deluxe 2.0 and I can't find the
solution on the web. Please help us.

As Ben mentioned check the FPAUDIO jumpers to make sure the 2 jumpers
are in place. The line outs <> Bline outs should be shorted with a
jumper. " ::|:| " (see the mobo manual).

You could install the Nvidia 2.45 or 3.13 drivers right over the current
ones, if you still have no sound after checking all the obvious settings
in windows I would RMA the board for a replacement as the onboard sound
on this board is pretty straight forward and shouldn't take any miracles
in getting it to work. ;p

Cheers,

Thanx a lot!

It's a mad thing because ASUS don't speak about that.
I just shortened lineoutL with Bline outL and lineoutR with BlineR on the
FPAUDIO1 and Sounds come!!!

When I bought my MB I've noticed 3 jumpers given by ASUS but no indication.
I understand now!

Many many thanx.

just had the same problem with a new a7n8x-dlx. its all about the jumpers.
as someone else mentioned earlier, you have to jumper from the lineouts to
the blineouts....a bit painful i found this.

I hooked up the audio to the front of the case, all worked perfect.
Returned the board and put another in and all works perfect.thanks alot. I/O
audio was DOA
