Hi all,

Is there any way to change the license key on a Windows XP Pro (SP3)
computer?

I have a Windows XP image that I deploy using SysPrep. The license key that
I bake into the deployment scenario is our corporate volume license key.
Now, it turns out that some of the computers that have been created using
this scenario are to be shipped to outside customers, so those computers
need to have appropriate Windows license keys associated with them. I would
rather not fiddle with my deployment mechanism if I can help it. I would
much rather just find a way to change the license key once the computers are
otherwise set up and ready to go. Is this possible?

TIA - Bob

If you used a Corporate Volume License key as you posted and you want to change Licenses on a few computers then I do not see any other way then to call and purchase another volume key from MS and use that.

No, I'm not asking how to get license keys. I just want to know if it's
possible to install Windows using one license key, and then later change the
license key. I know that MS has a tool that lets you change the SID. Maybe
an equivalent tool exists to change the license key (and invalidate the
previous license key validation). I doubt such a tool exists, but, what the
heck, it doesn't hurt to ask.

Actually - I would say yes.

The Product Key Update Tool was made to change the license on a single
computer from one thing to another. This seems to describe what the OP is
attempting to do...

The Genuine Advantage Product Key Update Tool is only valid for
users attempting to change their current non-genuine Product Key
to a genuine COA sticker or genuine Product Key.
All without a reinstall!
