Hello all. Have a k7vt2 mobo, Athlon 1800+ with single 128mb pc2100 pc266 184pin DIMM DDR SDRAM. Had a bad_system_config_info error. According to MS this means a bad memory module. Ordered 512mb, got 1gb pc2100u. Now neither new or old memory being seen by system, just getting 3 beeps repeated when powering on. Any suggestions on next step? TIA. Bill

Normally 3 beeps indicate a bad memory problem Bill, Any chance of getting hold of another stick of ram to try...

Not without buying another one. Could the problem be with the board? Or the bios? Or am I jumping too far ahead too quickly?

Ok. How do I do that when I can't see anything? There's sumtin in the manual about shorting a coupla pins for the CMOS, does that reset the bios?

CMOS BIOS same thing, and yes, it is on the MB ... you should have a 'jumper' you move & then move back ... follow the distructions in the manual.

If it don't fix anything then you'll need to change the ram again ... it's no good just buying any old memory, use Crucial's website to check what ram does work.

Just an update, cleared CMOS but no joy. Sending back incorrectly received 1gb for correct 512mb ordered. Thanks again for all your help.

Another update. Decided 2 get 2 256mb instead of 1 512mb of memory. Just tested and gettin the same thing. Tried clearin CMOS as well with both boards. Still no joy. Unless any1 has any more words of wisdom, looks to me like I need a new mobo. I'll be lookin up the upgrade to my mobo so there's time to think about it. Thanks. Bill

If you used the Crucial site bill and got the correct memory for that mobo, then it looks like your mobo is faulty....That did cross my mind in my first post but was too early to give you that advice and would of confused you...The only course of action was to swap ram in and out first, which you have done...

Let us know what board your gonna get bill....good luck...:thumb:

I'm still trying to find which board I need. Would you know of any websites that might help? Met someone this morning who suggested clearin out the pci slots and reseating processor. Then he tried to sell me a new system! :-) I'll try his ideas, but I don't think I need a faster system for home use. Thanks again for your help.
