I downloaded a program (SharpReader) which needed the installation of
asp.net. Since downloading it, my WinXP setup has changed in a few areas.
I was not able to boot up without going to a password screen (I'm the only
user and finally fixed that through a Google search), but my shut down has
changed. Instead of 3 boxes which I can click on to choose whether I want
to shut down, restart, etc., I get a box with a menu with a down arrow
indicating the choices. I find that annoying and would like to restore the
old way. How can I do that? Also, when I want to get to task manager I
used to just do a ctrl-alt-del and it would start. Now I get a box with 6
different options such as "lock computer, log off, change password, etc."
Is there anyway to get rid of that and go back to just having task manager
come up? Thanks.

You would have to check the box labeled: "use the welcome
screen" through Control Panel, User Accounts, Change the
Way Users Log On Or Off.
