ASP.NET Account - What is it?

Today I installed four non-critical Win XP updates from Microsoft. When I
rebooted I had to click my account on the welcome screen. Before this, I was
the sole account / operator of this machine and my name did not show up on
the welcome screen. On checking User Accounts in Control Panel I find an
account named ASP.NET Machine A... that, to my knowledge, had not been there
before. My questions:

A. Where did it come from?
B. Do I need it?
C. Can I delete it? (I am not a NET developer)

Thanks,
Cooter

One example: DriveImage 7, a complete XP backup program, will install
when you install .NET frame if it does not already exist on your computer.
