I think ADO is the only way to get a DSNless connection, especially if you
are using an AS400.

You can create DSN-less connections using DAO: I do it all the time in
Access 97.

Obviously I misspoke about this. Since I haven't done it with DAO, I'll butt
out on this and let you get more qualified help.
