Is this the butterfly that comes over from North Africa? I saw something on TV about it this morning asking people to keep an eye out for them

yep, that be a painted lady from Africa ... they migrate here, then around august pop back over to Africa.
We/I never saw any last year, but they certainly made up for it this year.
Amazing that such a little thing can travel that far isn't it! I always thought a butterfly would do well to get from one end of Manchester to the other

I do sometimes wonder about mother nature though.
Why program such a beautiful insect to spend a huge part of it's life floating & flying between continents?
Very beautiful and delicate - it really does make one wonder how they can survive such a journey
