I want to burn a Music CD, but I want the Artist and Title to show up (like
they currently do with retail music CD's) on my Car's CD player.

A CD's I have previously burned (I think using iTunes) just displays
"unknown" on my Car's CD player.

Does Windows Media Play burn Music CDs and burn the Index or Song data file
that is used by my Cars CD player?

Can anyone tell me what technology is allowing the Artist and Title to show
up on Car's CD player?

CD Text is what you are wanting.

As for Software, I know Sonic Stage from Sony supports it. Real Player
reads it but I don't know about writing it. I have RecordNow and EZ CD
Creator and NTI CD Maker that support it. I'll bet Nero supports it.

Your burner must also support it. All of mine do so as far as I know it's
normal.

Whatever burner software you use probably has a screen for typing in the
tags you want on the music CD.

With the notable exception of Windows Media Player.

WMP 10 (nor 11 as far as I am aware) do not support this.

iTunes 7 does now support burning Audio CDs with this information (previous
versions of iTunes did not). You need to check the preferences to make sure
you have it turned on.

Note: this does not apply to MP3 cds.

The standard that does this is generally referred to as "CD Text". Not all
CD players support it but as your car player has already been able to do it
obviously it can.

Note: Some in car Audio systems which support a CD changer _AND_ CD Text can
also accept an iPod interface connected to the CD changer socket and the
iPod interface pretends to be a CD changer and shows track names by sending
CD text information.
