I
Ion Control
OK. That felt good. I've spent 6 hours today trying to get basic
functionality out of my wireless 11g card to no avail. Here's the deal
(some of this is a repeat of an earlier post): I'm trying to network a Dell
laptop using a NetGear WG511 wireless 11b/g card. I have a NetGear WGR614v1
router. With wires, everything works perfectly. Network is fine. All the
computers are happy, etc, etc, etc. When I change one of the wired laptop
to the wireless card, the following things happen:
The SSID shows up and I attempt to connect using my 128-bit key. Things are
fine. The NetGear utility shows a successful connection. I try to access
the network (names are correct) and nothing happens. Even after I disable
each and every firewall, I still can't see the network and visa versa,
eventhough everything shows that I'm connected. I reboot, thinking that
things need to refresh and here's where things get irritating. The WG511
connects on startup for about 10 seconds then disconnects and starts
scanning. After a few minutes, it finds the connection but them promptly
loses it. After this, no amount of manual connecting etc will work.
What's going on?
I've tried using the router as a DHCP server and just using fixed IPs on
everything. I've tried changing network names and disabling the wired
network connections. No amount of tweaking works. I can pull up the
wireless network menu and there's my SSID broadcasting for al the world to
see but my wireless card will NOT connect! I'm ready to start throwing
things, so any help is appreciated. I've never been this frustrated in my
life.
Thanks for your words of wisdom.
