Hi all,
I have strange problem that I cannot solve.
I have two Win98 computers with third one working as a router (FreeSCO).
Both computers are working fine with internet, pings are going between them
with no problems.
With no specific reason they stopped seeing each other.
Both have shared resources and they worked fine for months.
Suddenly they cannot see each other in network neighbourhood, or by find
computer (neither by name nor by IP).
I checked deeper, and it appears that ARP requests have no response.
But not always. Sometimes ARP gets response, but still computer is not
found.
Sometimes I have warnings like "Duplicate IPs detected". but it's not true.
Every computer has its own static IP.
With DHCP network no ARP response can end with such error message, but with
static IP ???
Summary:
- it worked ok, nothing has changed,
- shares are correct,
- workgroups are the same,
- subnets are the same,
- IPs are unique (static).
- Ping is working ok
- internet works fine on both computers
What could it be ???
Maybe it will give some idea: some time ago one of this computers become
very slow with internet, I changed only his local IP and it started working
fast as the other one.
Best Regards
