I am working on a slide show for a client. He has choosen Arial Narrow as his "must have" font. When I view the slides he has created so far, the kerning is wacky. Some letters are very far apart. Others are squished together. It appears to be rendering ocrrectly, just the kerning is off. Any thoughts?

A) Are you certain that Arial Narrow is on your computer and/or that you're both using the
same version? Choose Format, Replace Fonts. Look at the fonts listed in the upper listbox.
Any with a ? next to them are fonts the presentation uses but that aren't present on your
system.

B) Are you seeing the problem in content that's been pasted in from some other application
then resized, ie, Excel charts, PPT graphs and so on?

I've also noticed uneven kerning and character spacing
issues with fonts that are embedded in PowerPoint
presentations. Has your client saved his presentations
with fonts embedded? If so, perhaps you could tell him
to turn font embedding off (provided that both of you have
Arial Narrow installed on your own machines) and then
see how it looks.

I do have the font arial narrow installed on my machine. i tried replacing the font with arial (which diplays fine) and then replacing it back with arial narrow (which still does not display kerning correctly). Arial narrow looks fine in all my other programs. it is only with powerpoint that i have trouble. i will check to see if the version he gave me has embedded fonts. it is the only thing i can imagien is left to check

The Format, Replace Fonts dialog box will tell you whether PPT is using an embedded font or not.
It's hard to describe, but the icon it shows in the upper list box is quite different from the usual
TT, printer or ? icons.
