hi i've been having a problem for like six monthes now that i've written in
about before. i have a couple folders i created on my storage drive that i
can no longer access in any way. i'm especially trying to delete them with
no success. i'm trying to use a system restore but it just absolutely won't
work!

my question is how do i rid those files/folders of my life? and how do i
regain the functionality of my system restore?

sorry i'm a newbie and any suggestions, could you please explain in extreme
detail? thank you very, very much. =)

Since I don't know what you've done (and I don't think System Restore is
the way to go anyway):

1. What happens when you try? If you get any error messages, what is the
text of them?

2. Can you delete the folders in Safe Mode?

3. Can you delete the folders from Safe Mode Command Prompt?

4. What version of XP do you have - Home or Pro? You may need to take
ownership of the folders. See this link for that:
Take Ownership of a File or Folder in Windows XP [Q308421] -
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=308421

Without knowing more details about your system and the folders (name,
contents, error messages), I can't give you more specific help than
that.

a storage drive? external hard drive back up??? pluged into usb?? or slave
drive?? well anyway doubly click my computer (on desk top) u should see
2 hard drives.c & storage one.double click the drive thats not c with mouse
pointer inside the storag box, right click.point to view.click how u want ur
stuff layed out.thumbnails.try differt settings.i use "icons" then go below
veiw to "arange icons by > size name.play around till its the way u want it.
i use "name" whice is alphabetical.then put mouse pointer on file u don't want
right click left click delete.or u could hold down ctrl key on key board. left
click the files u don't like then right click one of them left click delete &
all the files u left clicked: gone.or u could go to pcworld .com magazine
download a file shredder.install.click yes to "install in shell" then when u
right click a file, in the menu will be the shredder.click it to write over
file
many many times.

oh about system restore.when u click system restore.u can't just pick any
day to restore back to.at random days and times windows makes a restore
point.(takes a picture of ur computer system) when u look at the calender
in restore the days in blue that look marked are days that windows took a
picture
if u click a white day its a day that windows didn't take a pic.so it can't
restore.
u can't just pick any day.u must pick a blue marked day.that windows has a
picture of to work from.

u say u can no longer access something?? u know u have to scan disk a
back up drive to use it? in win xp its called error ck double click my
computer
right click the back up drive > propertys > tools error check E or D just
fix files
should do it. also use defrag to check back up.

jacked, and won't work.

There is no way for me to know what you did. Based on your posts, you
probably need to do some computer maintenance, though.

1. Make sure your computer is clean:

2. Do routine maintenance:

3. See MVP Bert Kinney's site for System Restore questions/problems:

4. Back up your data:

System restore is notorious for becoming corrupt. The
only course of action now is to turn off system restore
for the drives being monitored, restart your system and
turn system restore back on. This will clear all of the
corrupt restore points. Now make a new restore point and
you should be set to go.

thanks again, these forums are great, its too bad though there isn't a chat
type support. that way "There is no way for me to know what you did. Based
on your posts, you probably need to do some computer maintenance, though."
wouldn't be a mis-communication though. again i really appreciate the
assistance, you've been more than helpful.
