Are USB drives logged

I would like to know if USB drives or devices are logged once they are
inserted or removed from a computer. Is there a log file somewhere which
records what, where and when a usb flash drive or mouse or alike is plugged
in and removed? Or perhaps a log file that simply states when a new drive
letter is generated or activated each time a usb drive is inserted?

Thanks in advance.

Not that I know of. But see "Device Manager Does Not Display Devices
That Are Not Connected to the Windows XP-Based Computer"
(http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=315539). You can safely remove
unused hidden USB drives from the Device Manager to free up drive
letters.
