Are USB-1 and USB-2 connectors different somehow?

I never had any USB-2 peripherals 'til recently and never noticed
that the two front panel USB connectors on my Antec 1080 case ran at
USB-1 speed even though they're connected to USB-2 ports on my Asus
P4PE motherboard. The four rear panel USB-2 ports (soldered to the
motherboard) run at the proper speed.

After making sure I hadn't made a wiring error when I built the
machine long ago, I dropped Antec a line and they said that the front
panel connectors were USB-1.

So, just how are the connectors different?

they are saying that the header for the front panel is USB 1 - connectors
are indentically the same

I was set to disagree with you 'til I realized that maybe you're not
using the same meaning of "header" as I would.

If you're talking about the Antec's front-panel PCB assembly for the
USB connectors, it looks like you're right.

Searching Google (something I should have done before posting, I
guess), I find mention that early 1080s had a low pass filter in the
line to the front panel USB connectors which prevented them from
working at USB-2 speeds. Some folks apparently managed to get new PCB
assemblies from Antec, while others simply jumpered out the filters.

yes, otherwise I would have mentioned the motherboard...i struggled with
this on many a case that had a PCB in line instead of a just a cable
connecting the USB to the mainboard.
