Are these folders made by IE?

The folders are not created by IE.

Do you find the same or similar files in C:\I386? Have you reinstalled
WinXP several times?

Ah, I now see that '[MSN icon]auupdate' file in the odd folder which
suggests a relationship with MSN8/MSN9/MSN9.1 (AKA MSN Explorer). IIWY I'd
ask MSN about this or post to
news://msnews.microsoft.com/microsoft.public.msn.discussion.

Or they may be the result of reinstalling WinXP to C:\ over and over. Post
about that to news://msnews.microsoft.com/microsoft.public.windowsxp.general
or the like.

To cover your bets, I've crossposted this reply to the above newsgroups.

Thank you so much.
Yes, I have MSN 9.1.

I posted the same thing to microsoft.public.windowsxp.general (Subject: What
are these folders?) and was told to reboot the PC and dump them.

Thanks again!
