When I try several sources :

VCR Stereo, Analog in via the purple cable
on sterso vcrs I get a lot of video flutter at
the top of the screen.

When I hooked up a mono 4 head vcr the harsh
video flutter was gone yet I could tell it wanted
to come up.

These same vcrs when I put them with a normal tv set
playing the same vhs's I dont see that distortion.

Whats gives ?

In the TV setup, under Display, check the Crop Video box to remove the
flutter from displaying.

Yeah I know how to crop. The problem is. it is too much flutter.

The problem is with 720x480 is that I would have to crop 44 lines.

When I play the same vhs tape through a more expensive unit then the
video flutter gets even worse.

I loaded the file in to virtual dub to count the bad lines. Just in
case some one was curious. Oh the feed is interlaced and at 29.97.

I have a similar problem with my AIW 9600XT playing back VHS tapes for analog
capture. I did not see this with my older AIW 7500. According to folks on the Rage3D
board, this is a problem with the Rage Theater 200 chip and its Macrovision detection.
The AIW detects Macrovision even on nonencoded tapes. Simply speaking, their
drivers are buggy POS. ATI seems unwilling AND unable to fix this issue. the only
solution is to get a Sima CT-2 Video Stabilizer for $50+ which removes Macrovision's
signalling. The problem with this is that you can get an AverTV or other TV card for $50
that does not have this problem which renders your AIW rather useless. So far, I
haven't come up with a solution to this mess.

Gulp....

I keep coming up with prices around

Item number: 5756514966

On www.ebay.com

Of 76.99 plus 8 bucks shipping.

While over at www.amazon.com you can get one for 45 bucks or so
it you sign up for their credit card or get one for 79 buck for
free shipping.

Dont these just make you cringe.....

Back on ebay some of the sellers are crazy. I have seen
shipping for as high as 15 bucks or more for this small
unit.

All I want to do is backup some of my VHS tapes before
they get any worse.......

Thank you for taking the time to read/repond....

So far I dont see any mention of macrovision for the sima......

Well I placed an order and my piggy bank is in hock for a few months
because of the purchase.

I hope this helps because I am really getting sick of all this.

I heard of macrovision drivers that some say to remove but....

ATI needs to listen to the people that are spending the money
else some of us will begin to go elsewhere........

Asking us to buy the next version of this or that for 300 bucks
etc they are just plain insane...............
