Are permently deleted files ever recoverable?

I was in the wrong directory deleting some large MPG
files. They were to big for the recycle bin. I clicked to
delete permently. How perment is this bad decision? is
their any way to recover many hours of work?

Maybe. Large files are more difficult as they're more vulnerable to
fragmentation. Google for an undelete tool and STOP writing to the drive
until the files are recovered.
