it's freeware?, don't see why it would be OT? (unless I am missing
something)
==================

It sounds like he is referring to something that is not freeware
but it emulates freeware.

I wonder if he has an XP emulator available?

why or why not ?

There are emulators that use as input illegal copies of console
game ROMs (still under copyright). I guess that might raise some
eyebrows, and be considered *bad* by some/most people here.

Otherwise, on the *good* side, examples I can think of are:

DOXBOX - emulates DOS for games under WinXP
WINE - emulates Windows under Linux, therefore, can run Windows
freeware (I've used it -- a ways to go, but a good start)

There are Freeware(Public Domain) ROMs avaliable that are made by some
companies as trial games before market and also by individuals who have
the right construction software.
As such then SNES9X / ZSNES would be Freeware using those ROMs
Some Freeware(Public Domain) ROMs:
http://www.snes9x.com/freeroms.asp
And Visual BoyAdvance wuld also be Freeware as Freeware(Public Domain)
ROMs exist for it as well as you see here:
http://www.emulator-zone.com/doc.php/roms.html

There are other Freeware(Public Domain) ROMs for many of the emulators
and some almost commercial grade, its just a matter of looking for them.

Just because a program/product can be used illegally, (ie. Commercial
ROM playing) does not mean there is not a legitamit use for the same
program/product.

WINE is not strictly speaking an emulator. In the tradition of geeky unix
anacronyms: "Wine Is Not an Emulator." http://www.winehq.com/site/myths
