Are Checksum failures common?

Three different downloads, using two different download managers and one
download using a browser and I've yet to get a valid checksum match. I used
Nero as well as VistaMD5Check. I've never experienced trouble with large
file downloads before, although I can't say that I've ever downloaded a 2GB+
file before. I'm on TWC with a solid 5MB connection. Is it common to have
this many failures?

Thanks,
David

I've only has a problem when using obscure verifier programs.

1. Make sure your are verifying the MD5# and not the Sha1# if you are using
Nero.
2. Check if different programs give you the same hash for what you
downloaded and if all three downloads have the same hash. I used SecExMD5+
which is freeware available at download.com.
3. If you still have the wrong hash I'd try another D/L using ReGet Deluxe
which is a free 30 day trial at download.com; I can verify that it works
properly in XP and in Vista RC1.

P.S. download.com is just CNet's software area.

David -
What version did you download via the download manager - the 32 bit or the
64 Bit?
The MD5 sums are as follows:
32-Bit
MD5 hash: 22486e815a38feffd9667317dfeec55a
SHA1 hash: e00b4ebbc81fb420cf047973b95a9cfb7cdf51b7

64-Bit
MD5 hash: f3a385aae6e4dea9226e31d9f1148b56
SHA1 hash: 8e4de7a72c828a3543ff1663243eb0836da07eea

If you using the Nero MD5 Verifier - you can either check the MD5 or the
SHA1 hash - or both, simply but select the type you want to check

Just make sure that you are using the values listed above - I saw an earlier
post (don't remember exactly who posted it ) that had two extra characters
[0x] at the beginning of the MD5 - which is not correct.

I hope that this helps..
Enjoy RC1 .. I know I am

Thanks guys, I was pretty deliberate in chosing the right .iso, after all,
it is 2.5GB :- ) And I did choose the correct MD5 hash. So who knows what
the issue is. I'll clean the cache, emprty the recycle bin, reboot and try
again. I ddn't compare the failed checksums to see if they matched, maybe
I'll do that if the next DL fails, and then I'll alsotry the other download
manager.

Thanks again.

Please let us know your results.
Also, what DL mgr are you using - I had success in using the Akamai Download
Manager (the one that is on the RC1 download page) , if you have not tried
this one - see if this one "fixes" your bad MD5 checksum

After cleaning the cache, the rercycle bin, and a subsequent re-boot, I was
able to get a valid hash. Whatever it was, be it cockpit error, net
congestion, or traces of a previous download in the cache or a temp file
directorie(s) I was able to achieve a valid download yesterday evening.
