i have two pst files. they are both showing in the left
side of the outlook window under "folders list". i have
the folders under the archive one properties set to "not
archive" this folder. i have archive set to run every 2
weeks so that it copies old stuff into the archive pst
file. I notice that towards the end of the process while
still runing it says "archiving the archive folders". why
does it do that?

also:
what are the limits for achives? my pst file for archives
is growing to about 370mg and growing larger all the time.
how do you handle this over time?

thanks.

i was wrong on the last question. my archve.pst is 800 meg
now. probably grow by 100meg a month.

actually i figured this out, i had it set to backup my
archives also. i changed this by right clicking on each
archive folder and setting to not get backed up.

i would still like to know the rule of thumb for pst file
sizes. how to you manage pst files that get about 1 gig in
size per year. do i need to start creating multiple
archive.pst files and just make a new one like every year
or so? just seems a hassle if i need to lookup an old
message. is there an easier way?

A pst in pre OL2003 format can have problems from 1.6gb approx, and can be
fatal at 2gb
You could I guess create archives by some specific criteria, eg
year/subject/project/company
Multiple pst's can be opened in OL, but this can lead to slowness in
operation.
All pst's should be backed up, whether you use the backup adin or a third
party backup solution.
