Archiving emails

Hello All

I am contemplating moving from outlook express to outlook97 (or higher, if
there's a good reason).

The main reason for doing to is to be able to use the 'Print it' message
rule (which doesn't exist in outlook express). I will also need to set up
about other 110 rules, each of which will relate to a particular 'client'.
These rules will be of the type 'Move all emails from client_abc to folder
abc'. There will be ~110 folders, one for each client.

I am concerned, however, about the apparent unreliability of outlook rules
(there are lots of postings on the newsgroups about rules not running
automatically, etc.), so I was wondering whether there is any
other software that would do this automatic filing/archiving of emails
according to the sender's name - reliably?

Hope someone can help.

There is a good reason. If your ISP requires authentication to the outgoing
server, Outlook 97 cannot do that and will not work for sending mail.

There is a limit of 32K characters for all rules combined. Depending on the
rules, you may or may not be able to have that many.

For most people there is no problem with rule reliability. If rules don't
work properly, in eight cases out of ten, it's a configuration issue.

Hello Brian

Thanks for your reply.

Can I assume - from the fact that with my current setup using outlook
express - that my ISP does not require authentication to the outgoing
server?

Thanks again.

If Outlook Express does not have that option enabled and it works, then I
think it's safe to assume you won't need it in Outlook either. If that's
the case, OL 97 should work.
