Archive files - searching and memory consumption?

I use PST files for organizing my mail items - a habit from Corporate email
days when PSTs would get emails off the server and onto ny hard drive.
Since the PSTs are available in my Outlook client as just other branches off
the Folders tree, I assume that they consume memory resources when they're
loaded up when Outlook opens. Is it any different with Archive files? And
if I wanted to search across ALL my email messages for something, would I
have search archive files separately? Thanks!

I have not seen resource issues with several .psts and an exchange mailbox
open.

You would need to search each .pst individually.
